About Tewkesbury

Whilst being a thriving riverside town, Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire is a living Museum of Tudor architecture and social history spanning over 500 years and in 1964 The Council of British Archaeology listed it amongst 57 towns "so splendid and so precious that the ultimate responsibility for them should be of national concern".

Tewkesbury offers a good selection of speciality shops, antique shops, tea and coffee shops, inns, pubs and restaurants.

Golf, tennis, horse riding, cycling, bike hire, bowling and angling are all available nearby. Boat trips are available throughout the main holiday season.

Nearby Attractions

The Cotswolds, Stratford upon Avon, Worcester, Cheltenham, Gloucester, The Forest of Dean and The Malvern Hills. A variety of local inns and restaurants are all within easy walking distance.

  • Nearest Railway Station: Ashchurch (2.5 miles), half mile past junction 9, M5. There is a regular bus service to and from the station.
  • Nearest Bus Stops: The Crescent, Church Street by the Abbey and at the far end of the High Street.

Every year Tewkesbury plays host to thousands of Medieval re-enactors who come to the town for the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival, a fantastic, free event which climaxes each day with a full scale re-enactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury of 1471. More information can be found at the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival web site.
